Wellness in the Ecuadorian Amazon
What if true wellness in the Ecuadorian Amazon wasn’t found in a spa, but in the heart of the rainforest? Imagine waking up to the melody of tropical birds and breathing the purest air on Earth. Instead of city noise, lush greenery surrounds you from the very first moment.
In the Ecuadorian Amazon, wellness means more than a trend. Rather, it becomes a way of reconnecting with nature, finding inner peace, and restoring both body and mind.
Finding Wellness Beyond a Spa
I didn’t realize how much I needed to disconnect until I found myself surrounded by nothing but rainforest. There was no traffic, no endless notifications, and no rushing from one place to another.
Instead, I woke up to the sound of birds and breathed in the fresh rainforest air. Slowly, I watched the morning mist rise through the trees. For the first time in a long time, therefore, I wasn’t thinking about what came next—I was simply enjoying the present moment.
That’s when I understood something important: wellness isn’t always found in a luxury spa. Sometimes, in fact, it’s found in nature.
Slowing Down in the Rainforest
As I explored the Ecuadorian Amazon, I realized that everything moves at a different pace. Walking beneath towering trees and listening to rivers flowing through the forest changed my perspective completely.
Additionally, discovering plants that Indigenous communities have used for generations made me appreciate their deep connection to nature. There was no schedule to follow and no pressure to rush.
Instead, I simply had space to breathe. This experience reminded me that slowing down isn’t wasting time—it’s giving yourself permission to recover.
Discovering Wellness at Cacao Glamping
One of the most memorable parts of my journey was staying at Cacao Glamping. From the moment I arrived, I knew this wasn’t just another place to stay. It was, instead, a place to reconnect with nature, local culture, and myself.
A Bean-to-Cup Cacao Experience
Before my trip, the team gave me a list of all the experiences available at Cacao Glamping. Since I’m a huge chocolate lover, I quickly chose my first activity: the bean-to-cup cacao experience.
Watching the entire process, from harvesting the cacao pod to preparing a warm cup of chocolate, fascinated me. I even tasted the sweet cacao pulp, known as mucilage, which quickly became one of my favorite flavors. Furthermore, learning why cacao is called “the drink of happiness” made me appreciate every sip even more.
Combined with a refreshing cup of traditional guayusa tea, I felt energized. Consequently, I was ready to keep exploring this incredible place.
Swimming in the Misahuallí River and Visiting the Sacred Stone
Later, I cooled off in the crystal-clear waters of the Misahuallí River, one of the most beautiful rivers I’ve ever seen. I also hiked through the rainforest to visit the Sacred Stone. This peaceful and meaningful place sits hidden within the forest surrounding Cacao Glamping.
A Night Under the Rainforest Sky
That evening was something I’ll never forget. There was no internet and no distractions—just the sounds of the rainforest surrounding me. As a result, I fell asleep surrounded by nature and woke up feeling completely refreshed.
Local Culture, Dance, and Cleansing Ceremony
The next day, I enjoyed some of the freshest food prepared by the local community. Afterward, I experienced their traditional dance, and they invited me to join them. Before I knew it, I was dancing alongside them, and their warmth made me feel like part of the community.
I also participated in a traditional cleansing ceremony. This beautiful experience, therefore, gave me a deeper appreciation for their culture and traditions.
Before I knew it, my final day had arrived. Leaving Cacao Glamping wasn’t easy, since I wasn’t just taking home beautiful memories. Instead, I was leaving with a new appreciation for the Ecuadorian Amazon, its people, and its incredible biodiversity.
Reconnecting with Nature, Rediscovering Myself
As I left the Ecuadorian Amazon, I realized I was taking home much more than memories. Indeed, I left feeling calmer, inspired, and deeply connected to nature.
This wasn’t just another trip. Rather, it was an experience that reminded me to slow down, appreciate simple moments, and embrace the beauty of the world around me.
If I ever return to Ecuador, I already know exactly where I’ll go first. The Ecuadorian Amazon, without a doubt, will always have a place in my heart.
